BALDWIN, WI – On Monday April 8, the Blackhawks Girls' Soccer Team hosted the Spooner Rails for the home opener at Millpond Varsity Field.  It was a beautiful day for soccer. The sun was shining, the field was in good shape and the temps were in the 60's.  The wind was howling out of the North, which would prove to be a challenge as the Blackhawks started the match defending into the wind.

The first half was pretty even with Spooner winning many of the 50/50 challenges but the Blackhawks holding more of the possession.  Spooner scored an early goal in the first half, but that would be the extent of their attack.

The second half was an entirely different match. The BW Blackhawks took possession from the whistle and kept Spooner pinned to their defending half for the majority of the half.   Senior Captains Jordan Drilling and Jessica Moor had an outstanding match, combining for the majority of points in the second half.  Scoring started off with Drilling making an excellent back crossing pass from deep in the Rail's defending half.  Moor gave it a touch then sent it into the Spooner net.  Moor also would have an assist of her own, making an excellent cross after a corner kick finding Junior Ryver Garman after bouncing off several players.  Gartman made a quality hit putting it in the back of the net.

The Blackhawks would continue to dominate the match as Drilling got a free kick 10 yards outside the 18-yard box and sent the ball sailing over the Rail wall and Keeper landing in the upper net.  Drilling would finish off the Blackhawks scoring with her second goal of the match with a beauty of a shot outside the 18 after dribbling through the Spooner defense.

The girls played an improved second half after keeping pace with the first half challenge of the wind.   The back four of the Blackhawks had an exceptional game with Senior Olivia Kaiser, Juniors Jessica Jarvis and Montana Peterson, and Sophomore Trinity Merritt keeping the ball off Freshman Keeper Olivia Chouinard.  This was a conference win making the conference record 1-0-0 and an overall record of 1-2-0.  Spooner did not have a JV team.   Our home match vs.  Amery was canceled due to weather.
