SPRING VALLEY, WI – While the season has had it’s ups and downs, the Spring Valley/Elmwood wrestling team is primed and ready to go for the post-season, with hopes for sending wrestlers all the way to Madison to compete in the state tournament.

The Cardinals open up that path this Saturday at the Regional Tournament in Cadott. SV/E will compete against some familiar teams in Boyceville, #12 ranked Cadott, Clear Lake, Cornell/Gilman and Glenwood City. The Cardinals have wrestled against all those teams at some point or in some tournament this season.

The goal for the Cardinals is to finish first or second individually, and on top as a team. Only the top two finishers in each weight class get to advance to individual sectionals on Saturday, February 19, in Independence/Gilmanton. Only the top team advances to compete at the team sectional in Ladysmith on Tuesday, February 12.

For any of the SV/E wrestlers to make it to state, they would need to finish in the top three spots in the sectional meet on February 19.

Currently, only two Cardinal wrestlers are ranked in the state rankings on wiwrestling.com, they are freshman Kaleb Casey at 106 pounds and senior Santana Schlegel at 152 pounds.
