BALDWIN, WI – Although the week didn’t start as planned the 2018 Marching Blackhawks finished their intense week of band camp. Due to circumstances beyond our control we stayed at our own Baldwin-Woodville High School July 23-27.

The days included sectional practices, basics in marching, learning how to use drill charts, and putting it all together on the field. Nights consisted of fun activities such as team building activities, movie night in Hudson, bowling in Hudson, and an open mic night to share experiences. Lights out and we all slept in the high school auditorium. Three meals a day and a mid afternoon snack prepared by the many great chaperones who donated their time. By the end of the week, this great group of kids was ready to show the community what they learned and put about 5 minutes of the show on the field.

2018 Marching Blackhawks show is titled Untold. They will travel back to the fantastical world of peasants, castles, knights, and dragons as they discover stories never before told through the music of James Dooley and Beethoven. The marriage of new and old music is sure to invoke feelings and thoughts of wonder, passion, intensity, and surprise, thus becoming an instant crowd favorite at both football games and competitions.

The design team of Adam Bassak, Mike Marcantano, Brad Tilley, and Alex Thode returns to create another great product as the Marching Blackhawks grow beyond last year’s success to become the strongest ensemble to date. This year’s Marching Blackhawks consists of 84 students with 24 seniors.

This year is a big year for Marching Blackhawks. Not only do they have this amazing show, but also they continue to fundraise to replace their 15-year-old uniforms. About $20,000 is still needed and uniforms will arrive in December just in time for their trip to Tampa, FL to perform at the Outback Bowl. With that being said, the Marching Blackhawks are also raising money for this trip. Raffle tickets are for sale at $20 each. The fabulous prizes include: (1) Trip for two to Las Vegas including air, lodging, and vouchers ($1600 value), (2) $1000 cash, and 2 tickets to Hamilton ($700 value). If you are interested in purchasing a raffle ticket or donating for either trip or uniform please contact Band Booster President, Marla Butler, at 715-379-6238.
