HAMMOND, WI – As school begins so does the Spring Valley cross country teams’ regular season schedule. Last week the Cardinals ran at the St. Croix Central Invitational and had some good finishers in the boys’ and girls’ races.

The Girls’ team finished in 11th place of 12 teams. SCC won the girls’ meet with a team score of 28 points. New Richmond was second with a score of 57 points, followed by Elk Mound (86), Durand (102), Glenwood City (154), Bloomer (156), Somerset (193), Prescott (203), Ellsworth (232), Baldwin-Woodville (238), SPRING VALLEY (304), and Cumberland (312).

SCC senior Marle Hamlin won the race with a time of 19:22.

The Cardinals were led by junior Katherine Dieckman, who finished in 29th place overall with a time of 24:18. Freshman Claire Anderson came through the chutes in 60th place (26:17) followed by junior Kari Hybben (66th in 26:50), freshman Andrea Hinzman (74th in 29:38) and senior Madison Maier (75th in 30:25).

The boys’ race was won by SCC as well, finishing in a tight race with 72 points, edging out New Richmond (78) and Durand (79) in a very tight race. Bloomer was next with 115 points, followed by Ellsworth (117), Elk Mound (129), Somerset (146), SPRING VALLEY (207), Prescott (229), Glenwood City (286), Baldwin-Woodville (290), Elmwood/Plum City (356), and Cumberland (393).

Isaac Wegner of Durand won the race with a time of 16:48. The Cardinals were led by junior Jon Corriea in 33rd place with a time of 20:12. Sophomore Matt Thoma was 42nd (20:51), freshman Blayne Gregg was 43rd (20:57), senior Cole Pelzel was 44th (21:00) and freshman Charlie Maier was 45th (21:01).

The Cardinals ran in Somerset Thursday and will run at Prescott on Tuesday, September 11.
