BALDWIN, WI – The Hawks rebounded nicely this week and went 2-1.  On Tuesday, April 16, Ben Schmoker pitched a gem at Somerset to give us an 11-0 win.  He was very efficient as it only took him 64 pitches to complete the 5 innings.  He allowed just 3 hits, no walks, and struck out 3.  He also helped with his bat by going 2-2 with an RBI.  Preston Jones had a great day at the plate as well, going 2-3 with 4 RBI’s and Blaine Guthrie was 3-4.

On Thursday we played in Osceola and were in control most of the game, but in the late innings we made some mistakes that ended up leading to a 7-6 loss.  Alex Bishop pitched well going 5.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits and struck out 4.  Jake Carlson pitched .2 innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit and Bailey Skelton finished the game allowing 1 hit.  Our top batters were Blaine Guthrie 3-3 with 2 RBI’s, Ben Schmoker who was 2-4, and Preston Jones 2-3 also with 2 RBI’s.  Our other 2 RBI’s came on a hit from Ross Roemhild.

On Friday we had an exciting afternoon game vs. Menomonie at home.  We had a 5-0 lead until the 4th when Menomonie tied it up, but in the 5th we broke out for 9 runs to get the momentum right back.  Starting his first Varsity game, Sophomore Sam Crowley then hit a 2-run homer in the 6th to give us a 16-6 walk off win by 10-run rule.  Zach Bishop pitched well through 3 innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 4.  Jake Carlson pitched the final 3 innings and got the win allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 2.  We had lots of good hitters combine to drive in the 16 runs, but of note Zach Bishop also hit his first varsity home run with a 2-run shot in the 3rd inning.  It was a fun way to take us into the evening where we had our Fish Fry fundraiser at the Baldwin Legion.  We served around 700 people and we want to thank the community, the Legion, AJ’s Cafe and all of the business’s that helped and donated to this successful event.

This week the varsity played Tuesday, April 23 at Ellsworth, Thursday, today, April 25 at home vs. Amery, and plays at SCC on Friday.  Monday, April 29 is at home (B-W HS field) vs. Grantsburg at 5:00 p.m. and it is our youth night event.  We encourage all youth to come join the team in pre-game activities, a hot dog meal, along with drawings and prizes.  For more details you can email
