BALDWIN, WI – Osceola - The Hawks travelled to Osceola for their last conference game of the year.  B-W jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Morgan Smetana led the game off with a double and later scored on a throwing error.  Brooke Evenson who reached due to that error would come around to score on Ty Mittl’s base hit to center.

The Hawks never looked back winning 8-1 and completing their conference schedule with an 11-3 record.  Smetana led the Hawks at the plate going 2x4 with two doubles.  Mittl and Bri Hanson each had two RBI’s.  The Hawks scored their eight runs on seven hits and eight walks but stranded eleven base runners.  Smetana went the distance in the circle giving up one run on six hits, striking out seven while walking two.

Hudson - On Thursday, May 16, in a tune-up game for the upcoming WIAA tournament, the Hawks hosted the Big Rivers Conference Champions, the Hudson Raiders.  The game was scoreless until the 3rd when the host Hawks opened the game up by scoring five runs.  The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by Morgan Smetana after a lead-off walk by Bri Hanson and a two out, two run hit by Ty Mittl scoring Lexie Klatt and Brooke Evenson.

Mittl would come around to score on an RBI single up the middle by Morgan Hable.  Smetana started in the circle for the Hawks going four shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out five.  Kate Groskreutz would finish it off for B-W by going the final three innings, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out three.  The Hawks win by the score of 5-2.

Coach Klatt commented, “It was nice to get a game in on our bye date in the tourney.  I wasn’t comfortable going a week off without a game heading into the La Crosse Logan game.  Besides getting the starters some reps, it was also nice to see our reserves get some opportunities as well.  With the injuries earlier in the year, we had a lot of the younger girls step up this year.  With no full JV schedule, it’s important that the girls take advantage of their opportunities and make the most of them.  Throughout the season, we witnessed that for the most part.”

The WIAA Regional tournament, La Crosse Logan game was rescheduled for Monday, May 20 at Millpond and the WIAA Regional tournament game vs. West Salem was scheduled for Thursday, May 23 at West Salem at 5 p.m.
