CLEAR LAKE, WI – The Spring Valley-Elmwood wrestling team has been struggling to fill all weight slots this season. But the Cardinals took advantage of another team that is struggling even more last week in their dual wrestling match with Clear Lake.

The Cardinals beat Clear Lake by a score of 51-18, winning seven of the matches by forfeit; on the other side of things, Clear Lake won one match by forfeit and the two teams had a double forfeit in another match.

Brayden Wolf won his match at 145 by forfeit to start the dual, followed up Santana Schlegel winning at 152 over Ivan Ruble with an 8-1 decision.

Korey Catts topped Nate Fesenmaier at 160 pounds in a tight 3-1 decision to make it 9-3 for the Cardinals.

Following six straight forfeits, five for Spring Valley and one for Clear Lake, the score stood at 39-9 for SV-E. Shane Larson of Clear Lake got a 5-2 decision win over Tristan Neisinger at 113 to make it 39-12.

Matthew Anderson of Clear Lake won by fall over Max Schmitt at 132 after a few more forfeits to cut the lead to 45-18, but the Cardinals’ Riley Merth finished the match with a win by fall at 138 over Trent Avery to set the final margin.

Winners by forfeit were: Wolf at 145, Nolan Stans at 170, Kenny Fesenmaier at 182, Travis Marty at 195, Paul Schwebach at 220, Kaleb Casey at 106, and Skyler Beesley at 126.

The Cardinals next wrestle at the Northern Badger on December 28 and 29 in River Falls.
