BALDWIN, WI – This past weekend (October 7 and 8) the Baldwin-Woodville Marching Blackhawks competed in their final two regular season shows, in preparation for next week's Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) State Marching Band Championships.

Saturday, they were at Chippewa Falls High School for Music Along the Chippewa. B-W finished First out of five schools in Class A/AA and won the caption for Best Percussion.  Sunday, they were in River Falls for Rhythm by the River. B-W again finished First, this time out of 4 schools in Class A/AA, winning captions for Best Musical Presentation, Best Percussion and Best Color Guard.

"These students are really starting to come together as a group," said Baldwin-Woodville Director Adam Bassak. "We made some huge strides this week in both music and visual areas and it paid off in our performances."

This year's Marching Blackhawks production is titled "Empty Nest" and takes the audience on a journey throughout the lives of a family of birds. From childhood, to learning to fly, to leaving the nest, to soaring, the band leads you emotionally throughout, closing with an empty nest as the children have grown and become independent adults. "The emotional connection with parents and audience members has been a wonderful thing for our students," said Bassak.

If you would like to catch the Marching Blackhawks they will be having a final run-through of their show at 3:00pm this Friday at King Field at B-WHS. They will be competing in WSMA State Championships in Whitewater on Saturday, October 14 at 8:45pm, and will perform in the annual Fall Band and Choir concert on Monday, October 16 at 7:00pm at King Field. Please come check out all the hard work the students have put in over the season!
