BALDWIN, WI – On Friday, October 12, the Baldwin-Woodville High School Marching Blackhawks spent their school day practicing and preparing for their biggest performance of the year. At 2:30 p.m. that Friday afternoon they performed their final run through of “Untold” their performance showpiece for 2018 to many Greenfield Elementary students. These elementary students were able to call out the names of their favorite band members and cheer for them before they headed to Milton, Wisconsin for the night. Busses departed at 5:30 p.m. and when they arrived at Milton High School the band members unloaded and snuggled into their cots and beds.

On Saturday, October 13, the lights came on at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast and then some practice on the field with high winds and chilly temperatures of about 40 degrees. At approximately 10:45 a.m. the Marching Blackhawks left for UW-Whitewater where the 34th Annual Wisconsin State Music Association (WSMA) State Marching Band Championships were being held. At 1:15 p.m. with a temperature of a balmy 50 degrees and winds of 14-18 mph this amazing group of B-W students took the field to put on their best creative performance of “Untold” yet.

At 4:30 p.m. it was time for the much-anticipated results. There was excitement throughout the stadium to hear the scores for Class A and Class AAA bands. There were eight bands in Class A including Baldwin-Woodville High School. Baldwin-Woodville was awarded Best Visual Performance, Best Musical Performance, and Best Color Guard.

The top scores went to 3rd place Columbus High School with a score of 70.225, 2nd place Cumberland High School with a score of 75.350, and 1st place to Baldwin-Woodville High School with a score of 79.225. This win gave Baldwin-Woodville the opportunity to perform an encore at 7:15 pm. This amazing performance of “Untold” was even more powerful than the one performed earlier in the day to win the Championship.

This State Championship makes the Marching Blackhawks three-time Wisconsin State Champions in three years and four-time State Champions in five years. These students have great dedication by beginning their work to these shows the week after July 4th.

If you would like to see the performance check out Baldwin-Woodville Bands Facebook page.

The next adventure for this group is in late December and early January when they travel to Tampa, Florida for the Outback Bowl. This group will be sporting brand new uniforms for this event since they have retired their 15-year-old uniforms. If you would like to donate to Baldwin-Woodville Bands for their uniform costs or trip costs you can mail checks to Baldwin-Woodville Band Boosters, P.O. Box 397, Baldwin, WI 54002. All support is greatly appreciated. Make note in the memo line how you’d like it designated. Thank you!
