Esther Marie (nee Danielson) Mims, 95, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on June 26, 2018, under the care of hospice at Brookdale Assisted Living Home in Wake Forest, NC.

Esther was born on January 31, 1923, in Gilman Township, Spring Valley,  WI, the fourth of six children born to Henry and Inga Danielson.

Esther left Spring Valley in 1944 to attend Midland Radio School in Kansas Cty, MO, where she excelled in her courses as a teletype reservations operator. After graduation, she was immediately employed by Eastern Air Lines in Miami, FL in radio control during World War II.

A happenstance meeting at a bus stop with Tom Mims, a soldier about to be reassigned to the Pacific theater, led to romance and finally marriage on September 14, 1946, in Miami. The war was over before reassignment and Tom was soon employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company. Through the years they lived in Miami, but they moved to NJ twice with AT&T and BellCore.  They retired in Atlanta and eventually moved to Ormond Beach, FL and enjoyed their home on a golf course community for 24 years. Throughout their marriage, Esther and Tom traveled to many areas of the world. Esther volunteered in various capacities in her Lutheran churches throughout her life.  She loved music and playing the piano, especially hymns.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing card games. However, her defining quality was that she was mostly fiercely devoted to her husband, Tom, who passed away after 64 years of marriage, and her children and grandchildren.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Irvin and Dorance Danielson, and sisters, Helen Nelson, and Alma Neiderhauser.  Dorance gave his life serving his country in World War II,

Esther is survived by her brother, Clifford Danielson (June), of Albany, NY, 3 children, Linda Mims Matthews of Littleton, CO, Tom Mims Jr. (Julie) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Sally Dees (Danny) of Wake Forest, NC.  Also, eight grandchildren, Philip Matthews (Melissa), Danielle Dees Sanders (Steven), Tiffany Matthews, Michael Mims (Anna), Timothy Dees (Amy), Angela Matthews Nabe (Ryan), Stephen Matthews, and Jon Dees (Dawn). Esther is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held July 21, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church in Fort Mill, SC, where she was a member while living in Fort Mill until recently moving to Wake Forest.
