SPRING VALLEY, WI – The annual Spring Valley High School Girls Basketball Banquet was held last Sunday night, March 30 at the high school. There were all but two of the 29 Cardinal girls’ basketball team members present with the three team managers and coaches on hand. They were joined by family and guests totaling about 60 who gathered for a nice meal, fellowship and awards.

Coach Hoolihan presented the Cardinal Award to senior co-captain Lydia Wittmer. This award is only presented to one girl each year. According to Coach Hoolihan the Cardinal Award is the most prestigious award for a Spring Valley High School athlete can receive. The Cardinal Award was voted on by the 29 girls of the Cardinal girls’ basketball team.

The Cardinal Award is the highest award any Spring Valley athlete can get. The Cardinal Award represents “Leadership, Unselfishness, Toughness, Accountability, Dedication and Responsibility.”

Lydia Wittmer has played basketball all four years of her high school career since she was a freshman and this year she served as a captain. Wittmer is a 3-sport athlete for the Spring Valley Cardinals starting as a freshman through senior years. She ran cross country and was also a captain this year and lettered 3 years in a row; as stated she played basketball all 4 years and lettered 3 of those 4 years. She has lettered in girls’ softball the last three years.
