BALDWIN, WI – For the past several years, the Botany Belles and Beaus Garden Club (BBBGC) has sponsored a Nature Photography contest to celebrate the beauty that surrounds us. Any amateur photographer in the area was invited to submit photos in the following categories:  “Birds, Bugs & Beasts,” “Celebrating 50” (a special category this year since the garden club is celebrating its 50th anniversary), “Fall Colors,” “Landscapes,” “Plant Portraits, and Sunrise/Sunset.”

The photos were displayed at DJs Fiesta Event Center during Chili Fest and the top photos were determined by popular vote.  There were many beautiful photos submitted again this year and voters had a hard time deciding on their favorites.  The club appreciates the interest in the contest and the increasing number of voters.  The photographers this year ranged in age from 9-year-old Rylee Shilts through adults.

The winning results of the Nature Photography contest are as follows:

“Birds, Bugs and Beasts” - 1st - Jule Hudson: Winter Visitor, 2nd - Rylee Shilts:  Mr. Long Legs, 3rd - Lisa Boggs: Eagle Eyes on Me.

“Celebrating 50” - 1st - Cheryl DeJong: 50% Visibility, 2nd – Sheri Erickson: Fireworks Celebration, 3rd – Mike Hyland: It’s a Boy! Now 50., 3rd – Elvera Jacot: 50th Anniversary Flowers.

“Fall Colors” - 1st – Lisa Boggs: Hills of Glorious Colors, 2nd – Sheri Erickson: Autumn Reflection, 3rd – Jerry Weaver: Autumn Creek.

“Landscape” - 1st – Autumn Berndt: Peaceful View, 2nd – Rylee Shilts: Running River, 3rd – Dave DeJong: Beyond Blue, 3rd – Teresa Tomanek: Multnomen Falls.

“Plant Portrait” - 1st – Cheryl DeJong: De “Lightful” De “Lovely,” 2nd – Sheri Erickson: Sunny Sunflower, 3rd – Kirstin Thompson: Texture Treasure, 3rd – Julie Van Someren: Beauty of the Night.

“Sunrise/Sunset,” 1st – Sheri Erickson: Glowing Grass, 2nd – Lisa Boggs: Dawn on the Farm, 3rd – Tessa Van Someren: Sunrise over the Silo, 3rd – Dave DeJong: Oregon Coast-Wake Up Call.

Congratulations to everyone who entered.  The top photographer in each category receives Baldwin Chamber Bucks good at many area businesses.  Plans are underway for next year and all the categories will be the same with the exception of Celebrating 50.  Now is the perfect time to get outside and snap some fall color scenes.

If you have questions about the contest, email bbbgardenclub@gmail.com.  All of the top photos can be found on the Botany Belles and Beaus Facebook page, the club’s website and will be on display at the public libraries next week.
