ST. PAUL, MN – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is seeking comments on a draft Environmental Assessment, or EA, for its draft Eau Galle Dam and Recreation Area master plan.

The Corps released the draft document on Monday, April 15. Comments are being accepted through May 17.

The draft master plan is a strategic land use document that will serve as a vital tool for the responsible stewardship of resources to benefit present and future generations. This plan has multiple purposes:

• Prescribe an overall land use management plan for all land (fee, easements, or other interests) acquired for the park;

• Identify resource objectives and associated design and management concepts;

• Provide broad concepts rather than details of design or administration;

• Facilitate appropriate management, use, development, enhancement, protection, and conservation of the natural, cultural, and man-made resources;

• Ensure responsible stewardship of these resources to benefit present and future generations; and

• Guide the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers pursuant to applicable federal laws, policies and regulations.

A draft EA describing the proposal and the environmental impacts in detail is available to the public and can be viewed and downloaded from the St. Paul District website at: mvp.usace.army.mil/Home/PublicNotices.aspx.

Questions on the plan or comments on the EA can be directed to Jon Sobiech, project biologist, at 651-290-5428 or jonathan.j.sobiech@usace.army.mil. Please address all formal written correspondence on this project to the St. Paul District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ATTN: Regional Planning and Environment Division North, 180 5th St. E., Suite 700, St. Paul, MN 55101.
