ELK MOUND, WI - In the end, they just came up against a buzzsaw of a team.

The Spring Valley volleyball team had their season end abruptly last Tuesday when they faced off against Elk Mound in the opening round of the WIAA tournament.

The Mounders, who finished in second place in the conference with a 7-1 record, had the number five seed in the regional portion of the tournament while the Cardinals were the #12 seeded team.

Elk Mound was able to take advantage of Spring Valley’s unforced errors enroute to a three-game sweep by scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-12.

The Cardinals struggled with handling the taller and more experienced Mounders team as Elk Mound racked up 38 kills in the game with just six errors. Morgan Radtke had 12 kills to lead the Mounders and Cassidy Yakesh had 11.

Elk Mound also had 14 service aces in the game with Qwynn Tyman racking up nine of those aces on her own.

The loss ends the Cardinals 2017 campaign with an 11-15 overall record, 3-5 conference mark.
