SPRING VALLEY, WI - Two Spring Valley senior athletes will be honored on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the 2nd Annual Dunn-St. Croix Conference Scholar Athlete Banquet at the Stout Ale House in Menomonie. Sean Borgerding and Katy Schreiber will represent the Cardinals at the banquet. Honoree criteria includes grade point, number of varsity letters earned during the high school career, individual awards, and participation in lead-up competition to the State Tournament.
Borgerding has earned one all-conference first team award in baseball (2016), in football he was a three-year starter and earned first team selection on both offense and defense in both 2016, 2015, and a second team defensive selection in 2014 as a sophomore, and in basketball he was a four-year starter and was a first team All-Conference selection for two years and an Honorable Mention selection for one year as a sophomore. The senior earned a total of 11 varsity letters in his high school career. He will graduate seventh in his class with a 3.876 grade point average and is planning to continue his education at UW-Stout where he intends to play football and basketball.
Schreiber ran cross-country, played basketball and softball for four years, earning All-Conference honors this season in basketball. She has earned seven varsity letters in her high school athletic career and will graduate first in her class with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Schreiber intends to continue her education at UW-LaCrosse in the fall.
“The Spring Valley High School Athletic Department is proud to announce the selection of Sean and Katy as this year’s Dunn-St Croix Conference Scholar Athletes,” said Athletic Director Matt Ducklow. Each member school district within the Dunn-St Croix Conference is invited to nominate one boy and one girl for scholar athlete honors.
These two student-athletes will receive recognition at the conference level and will be honored as Dunn-St Croix Conference Scholar Athletes at the 2nd annual Dunn-St Croix Conference Scholar-Athlete banquet at Stout Ale House on Wednesday, April 5. This program was started by the athletic directors of the Dunn-St Croix Conference to honor athletes in each school for their academic as well as their athletic success.
The keynote speaker will be Greg Corning from Mondovi and all twenty student-athletes will be formally recognized. We encourage anyone who wishes to attend this event to honor these two student-athletes to contact Athletic Director Matt Ducklow at Spring Valley Middle-High School, 715 778-5554.
