LA CROSSE, WI – The season came to an end in La Crosse last Friday for the EPC Wolves, after a disappointing 21-7 loss to the De Soto Pirates.  \The first round loss means the Wolves finish the 2016 season with a 7-3 record, and a share of the SLC title.

The game remained scoreless until just before the end of the first half, when De Soto struck first with 56 seconds left on a five yard touchdown run.

The Pirates added to their lead late in the third after an EPC pass was picked off and returned 45 yards for a score.

The Wolves trailed 14-0 at the start of the fourth quarter, but quickly made a game of it after Anthony Ebensperger scored on a four yard touchdown run. EPC’s score came at the 10:53 mark, which gave the Wolves time and opportunity to take the lead.

Unfortunately for the Wolves, the Pirate defense held through the fourth quarter, while their offense scored one last time on a five yard pass with 5:32 remaining in the game. The final score by De Soto gave the Pirates a 21-7 lead that they would not relinquish.

Sam Hoyt and Luke Baier combined for 121 yards on the ground, with Hoyt garnering 81 of them.  Anthony Ebensperger had EPC’s only score after running the ball six times for 24 yards.

Dalton Binkowski completed 12 of 27 passes for 111 yards with one INT.

Binkowski also led the EPC defense with 6 tackles, as Ebensperger and Baier had 5.5 tackles each.  Austin Turner added 5, while Sam Hoyt had 4.5 stops.
