WOODVILLE, WI -- 14 Viking Middle School (VMS) students competed in the VMS Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. This was a hard-fought spelling battle.

These boys spelled words like: cavalcade, tenaciously scrumptiously, thaumaturgy, and burglarious correctly!

The 1st Place speller at the Viking Middle School Spelling Bee is 8th Grader Tyler Barnett.  Tyler won after spelling Honolulu, then neutron correctly.  He will represent VMS at the CESA #11 Regional Spelling Bee. The Regional Spelling Bee will begin at 1:00 in the Performing Arts Center at Baldwin-Woodville High School on Wednesday, February 15. He will be competing against students from Durand, Elk Mound, Elmwood, Ellsworth, Hudson, Hudson-Trinity, Menomonie, Menomonie-St. Joseph, Pepin, Prescott, Prescott-St. Joseph Spring Valley, and Saint Croix Central.

Next up after the Regional competition would be the State Spelling Bee on March 15, 2017 in Madison, Wisconsin at Madison Area Technical College's Mitby Theater.

Good luck, Tyler! Our alternate is 8th Grader Mason Hoch. Great job spellers!
