Althea Wood, age 96 of Spring Valley, Wisconsin died Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Althea was born to Edwin and Cora (Wedeven) Erickson on November 1, 1920, in Eau Galle Township, (rural Woodville), Wisconsin where her family had lived since 1867.  She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s (Woodside) Lutheran Church, rural Baldwin. 

She attended the Hoover School where she assisted her teacher in instruction because the little girl could speak three languages.  She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1938, then attended River Falls State Normal School to obtain her teaching degree.  She taught school 4 years before becoming a full-time farmer’s wife.

On May 17, 1943 Althea married Vincent E. Wood of rural Elmwood.  They were married at Our Savior’s.  They made their home on a farm in Rock Elm Township where she would reside for the next 73 years.  The union was blessed with 6 children.

Althea enjoyed sewing, quilting and having fun.  She was very active in her church. This humble woman had a heart for nonstop giving and serving to others.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vincent, her parents, son Tom, and only sibling Eldon. Left to mourn her passing are her children (Ann), Cherrie, Steven (Dawn), Dennis (Sandy), Renee, Ed (Barb), 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were: Jason Wood, Jon Wood, Corey Norby, Eric Wood, Ryan Wagnild, and Ron Wood.

Funeral service was on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.  Visitation was Tuesday, February 14, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church and at church one hour prior to the service. 

Burial was in St John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley.
