WOODVILLE, WI – Perfect temperatures, some snow and a lighted trail at the Giezendanner School Forest found approximately 50 people exploring the woods the evening of Friday, February 10 for the “Snowshoe by Moonlight” event.

This enthusiastic group made up of families, couples and singles strapped on snowshoes provided by the school district or brought their own and hiked a half-mile loop.  Some people enjoyed the fresh air and the beauty of the evening so much that they covered the loop two or three times and a couple of adventurous souls even left the lighted path and explored other areas of the school forest.  Hot chocolate and s’mores were available around the campfire before or after making the loop, and there was a storytime around the fire at 6:30. It was a very enjoyable evening in the forest, the Giezendanner School Forest!

The “Snowshoe by Moonlight event was sponsored by the B-W Giezendanner School Forest committee, the Baldwin Public Library, and the Woodville Community Library. The snowshoes provided by the school district have been purchased through grants from the Ann Marie Foundation, Walmart Community Grant, the St. Croix Valley Foundation and the Wisconsin Environmental Education Board.  If snow conditions improve, snowshoes are available for rental through Viking Middle School.

Comments were positive and many requested that this event be offered again so plans are in the works for next winter.  The date is not determined yet but the full moon is January 31st or March 1st. More details to come . . .
