EAU CLAIRE, WI – Elmwood, Wisconsin’s Mark Alfuth, Finance Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire recently received two prominent honors.  The first was the “2017 Roger Selin Accounting and Finance Teaching Excellence Award” and the second was a “Distinguished Honorary Member” of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

The Roger Selin Accounting and Finance Teaching Excellence Award is presented each year to one faculty member in the UW- Eau Claire Accounting and Finance Department.  The award recognizes outstanding dedication to classroom teaching that leads to exceptional student engagement and learning.   The award is sponsored annually by Wipfli CPAs and Consultants.  Wipfli LLP, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was founded in Wausau, Wisconsin in 1930 by Clarence J. Wipfli.  It is a multi-discipline professional services company with over 1,900 associates, 45 offices in the United States and two offices in India, Wipfli ranks among the top 20 accounting and business consulting firms in the nation.

The Accounting and Finance Teaching Excellence Award is named after Roger Selin who was an outstanding teacher in the UW - Eau Claire Accounting and Finance Department for 50 years. 

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) is an honors organization that recognizes and elevates high achievers.  NSCS members are deeply committed to scholarship, leadership and service and as a result, are impacting their campus and local communities every day. 

NSCS was founded in 1994 and is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies with organizations at over 330 campuses across the country.  Less than 10 percent of students qualify for membership in this prestigious society. 

At an October 15, 2017 ceremony at UW - Eau Claire Davies Center, over 30 UW-EC students were inducted into the organization and Alfuth was recognized as a Distinguished Honorary Member.  Examples of current Distinguished Honorary Members include former President Jimmy Carter and Senator John McCain.

After 28 years in business, Mark Alfuth “retired” and is now focused on teaching the next generation of business leaders.  Mark was an adjunct instructor for 14 years before becoming full time at UW - Eau Claire last year.  He teaches Principles of Finance, Wealth Management, and Investment Strategies courses.  Mark also consults on a limited basis with businesses in Western Wisconsin, including non-profit organizations focusing on strategy development, board development and leadership.  Mark earned his undergraduate degree at UW - Eau Claire and MBA from the University of Minnesota. 

Previously Alfuth spent 15 years with American Express and 13 years as CFO with American Public Media Group in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.

Mark Alfuth lives just north of Elmwood, Wisconsin with his wife Diana.
