ELMWOOD, WI – The 2017 Elmwood UFO Days began last Friday with the usual proliferation of mega garage sales with bargains galore all over the Village. Friday night is always reserved for the Miss Elmwood Coronation, but sadly this year with no candidates that came forward the coronation became the Miss Elmwood Scholarship Pageant.

The event opened with a cute dance number from the departing court of 1st Princess Kendra Kern and Princess Sophia Tiffany. The reigning 2016-17 Miss Elmwood Rebekah Connell was unable to attend due to a previous family engagement.

This was followed by the Welcome and Thank You’s to all from co-Royalty and Pageant Director Missy Roatch and the introduction of past Miss Elmwood Royalty that were in attendance for the evening.

Kendra Kern than gave an amazing musical performance as she sang, “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus – man can she belt it out!

Next on the program was the introduction of the 2017 UFO Days Grand Marshals Donna Lien and John Bates. Missy read their interesting bios that explained why the Elmwood Community Club made their wise decision to have Donna and John as the UFO Days Grand Marshals. They were escorted to the stage by co-Royalty and Pageant Director Amy Bechel and presented with beautiful commemorative plaques for the occasion.

Sadly, it was then time to introduce and bid farewell to the departing Court of Kern and Tiffany and introduce the new Jr. Miss Elmwood Veronica Awsumb.

Are you getting a little confused? Well, just wait…

The departing Princesses of Kern and Tiffany said thank yous to parents, sponsors and the like as usual. These two also received their $400 scholarship certificates. Missy Roatch had a few important questions for the departing Court, the last being, “Would you consider being on Court for another year?”

Both had emphatic, “Yes, definitely!” responses and they then sat back and enjoyed the entertainment provided by the talented Little Dancers of Elmwood who performed “Dancing in the Dark” by Rhianna. It was marvelous!

That left only one thing remaining to do: the coronation of Kendra Kern as Miss Elmwood and Sophia Tiffany to First Princess and Veronica Awsumb as Jr. Miss Elmwood. So there was a 2017-18 Miss Elmwood and her Court to reign over the 2017 Elmwood UFO Days after all.

The UFO Days fun continued throughout the weekend including the new addition this year of the Stipes Show carnival.

Congratulations Kendra, Sophia and Veronica and Elmwood on a great UFO Days 2017.
