    MILWAUKEE, WI — A luncheon to honor the achievements of north central and northwest Wisconsin students, teachers, and principals will be held Sunday, April 22, at Chippewa Falls Middle School in Chippewa Falls. Local recipients are Tina Fern-Denzer, Woodville, Luke Baier, Elmwood and Michaela Borup, Spring Valley. The event is sponsored by the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation.

    ELMWOOD, WI – As was reported last week in the Sun-Argus. The Easter Bunny hopped into the historic Elmwood Auditorium Saturday afternoon, March 31, to the delight of 75 area children. E. Bunny had to hop past Butternut Park again this year due to the snowfall that arrived overnight in Elmwood.

  • Glenwood City faculty member arrested for alleged online sex crimes
    GLENWOOD CITY, WI – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, and the Glenwood City Police Department arrested Peter L. Gaustad of Glenwood City, a faculty member at Glenwood City School District and a Glenwood City Council Member, on Thursday, April 5, 2018 after executing a search warrant.

  • New rankings show healthiest and least healthy counties in Wisconsin

    MADISON, WI – Pierce County ranked 7th out of 72 counties for health outcomes and 20th for health factors, while St. Croix County ranked 6th for health outcomes and 5th for health factors, according to the ninth annual County Health Rankings, released last week by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute (UWPHI). The Rankings are available at countyhealthrankings.org.

  • Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to issue new Medicare cards

    BALTIMORE, MD – Beginning in April 2018, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will start mailing new Medicare cards to all people with Medicare. A new alpha-numeric identifier will replace the current Social Security Number-based identifier. This roll-out will occur over a several month period, based upon the geographic location of the Medicare beneficiary.

    If you are a Medicare beneficiary, please watch your mail closely over the next few months for notifications from Medicare relating to this change.
  • Pierce Pepin Coop Services named 2018 Tree Line USA by Arbor Day Foundation

    Nebraska City, NE – The Arbor Day Foundation has named Pierce Pepin Cooperative Services a 2018 Tree Line USA in honor of its commitment to proper tree pruning, planting and care in the provider's service area.

    Tree Line USA, a partnership between the Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters, recognizes public and private utilities for pursuing practices that protect and enhance America's urban trees.
  • St. Croix County Highway Department breaks ground for Baldwin facility

    BALDWIN, WI – St. Croix County broke ground on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM for the new 135,000 square foot highway and ancillary facility necessary for storage and maintenance of St. Croix County equipment. The Baldwin Highway Facility is located at 300 Oak Ridge Parkway, Baldwin, Wisconsin.

  • Woodville Easter event draws crowd despite Egg Hunt cancellation

    WOODVILLE, WI – April Fool’s Day came a day early last Saturday, March 31 with several inches of snow as the joke. The poor Easter Bunny had to put on his snowshoes to get into Woodville for the annual Easter Egg Hunt. And given the weather, the egg hunt was cancelled for 2018. But plenty of fun was had by all who came to the expansive United Fire and Rescue – Woodville Station that was warm and offered lots of activities for the area kids to enjoy.
