Robin Fossum began studying the violin in the fourth grade.  She started studies with Edward Gradman, of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  At age 14, she studied with Morris Gomberg at Roosevelt University and Arthur Tabachnick at Interlochen.

Robin turned professional at 18 touring with singers Tony Bennett, Lena Horne, Perry Como and Chuck Mangione.  She has also been performing in various chamber and orchestral groups and has her University Degree in Violin Performance.

After a 30-year hiatus working in business, she has returned to playing music once again.  Currently she is a member of Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra, the Red Cedar Symphony and the Chippewa Valley Symphony.  Robin also belongs to the Hardanger Fiddle Association of America and is past president of the Board of Trustees/Spurlock Museum/University of Illinois.

After retiring from the position of Fund Raising Executive with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, she and her husband Robert relocated to Chetek in Barron County, WI. Barron is one of the most populous Norwegian counties in the U.S.  She is the current President of the Sons of Norway’s Dovre Lodge.

During a trip to Norway, Robin discovered a Hardingfele in Trondheim, which came from the Isle of Hitre.  Currently she plays a 1928 Hardingfele from Voss, Norway, and a classical 1772 Deconet violin from Venice.
