St. Croix Valley Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the main floor meeting room of the River Falls Public Library. Join us for a rebroadcast of a Wisconsin State Genealogical Society webinar – How to Start Researching Your Irish Ancestry.

Presenter Donna Moughty describes steps you need to take to be successful, types of records available, websites, and reference books. Even if you are an experienced Irish genealogist, you are likely to pick up some good tips, and if you have no Irish ancestry, you are likely to pick up some tips that carry across to other research areas.

The St Croix Valley Master Gardeners Association is hosting Garden U on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Hudson House located off of Hwy I94 at Carmichael Rd, exit 2. On-site registration starts at 8:30. $40 fee includes lunch and speaker handouts. Farm Service Agency (FSA), disaster loans are available to Farmers in Dunn, Pepin, Pierce and St. Croix Counties who have suffered qualifying physical losses based upon damages and losses caused by tornado that occurred on July 28, 2017. Actual loss loans for physical damages to property destroyed or damaged will be based upon the allowable cost associated with repairing or replacing the property destroyed or damaged. Also, the damaged or destroyed property must be essential to the continuation of the operation. Interest rates for actual loss loans not to exceed $500,000 will be three and one quarter percent (3.75%). FSA is prohibited from making loans to applicants who can obtain credit elsewhere. Farmers who feel they have sustained a qualifying loss and desire more information should contact the Pierce County FSA Office in Ellsworth at 715-273-5522. The deadline for filing applications is March 19, 2018.

WESTconsin Credit Union is hosting an educational Identify Theft and Fraud Lunch-N-Learn is being offered to the public on Tuesday, March 20 with lunch provided by Subway beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the seminar beginning at 11:30a.m. at the Baldwin Municipal Building, 400 Cedar Street. There will be a special guest speaker from the Baldwin Police Department. The presenters will provide information about the following topics – How identity thieves get your personal information How to minimize your risk of ID theft – on-line and off-line When and where not to give your Social Security number Warnings signs that you may be a victim What to do if you are a victim Seating is limited—register early!
